ASSESSMENT IN IML COURSES
The examination will be on the last day of the course, during normal class time.
Certificates of Proficiency or Statements of Attendance will be posted to the students by mail.
Students should advise the tutor if they wish to sit for the examination.
- Assessment in IML courses is NOT compulsory. And there is NO examination fee.
- Where students choose to be assessed, the test is proficiency based, and gives students an opportunity to show how well they can communicate in: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
- A Statement of Attendance will be issued, if requested, for those who do not wish to sit for the examination, and had attended at least 75% of the course.
- Criterion-based assessment does NOT use a numerical system, as in giving marks out of ten.
- A Certificate of Proficiency will be issued to those students who demonstrate proficiency at the level assessed (Vietnamese Level 1). Those assessed as not yet proficient are issued with a Statement of Attendance, if they had attended at least 75% of the course.
- The assessment in Listening and Speaking had been carried out in normal class times by the tutor and the end-of-the-year examination will only be the assessment in Reading Comprehension and Writing.
- The examination will take one hour, and 10 minutes for perusal before examination begins.
- For the Reading Comprehension assessment students will be given a short article in Vietnamese to read and then answer ten questions. The questions and answers are in English.
- For the Writing assessment students will be asked to write a short essay in Vietnamese on a nominated subject.
